DAVIS......aka DAVEY
This is Davey. After we lost Chico, Tom's dad and Linda had no peace about their sheep flock with new babies being born being safe.
They looked into several alternative safety measures and ended up back at getting an alpaca.
Davey is 8 years old and is very nosey!!!
He will spit or kick if he is agitated.
But he does let you pet him and comes running when he sees you and follows you until he has satisfied his curiosity.
We hope he guards the sheep as well as Chico did.
He already loves the new babies just like Chico did.

CHICO
Here is Chico our Alpaca. He is the guardian to the sheep flock that Tom's Dad has across the road on his 40 acres. We had a coyote attack 3 years ago and knew we had to do something. We found that alpacas are naturally canine aggressive. Chico is 7 years old in 2012. He needs sheared every 2-3 years. He would give his life for those sheep. If he feels they are threatened, he puts himself between them and the threat. He will "hum" to communicate his distress to us. We have not only not lost any sheep since we got him, but we have watched a mama fox for hours at time try to get to the newborn lambs and Chico for hours at a time pace the fence line to keep her out. He is a jewel to have.
It is with great sadness that I write that in Jan. 2015 Chico died due to meningeal worm in his spine. He gave a hard fight and had I been more diligent in his care he could have pulled through....I have to deal with that failure....I'm sorry Chico!! :-(
